The men's senior and U-23 national football teams announced their rosters for upcoming matches on Monday.
The senior national team will play the remaining matches in the second round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Korea is scheduled to play home matches against Turkmenistan on June 5, Sri Lanka on June 9 and Lebanon on June 13 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The team's manager Paulo Bento has included players based overseas including Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, Hwang Ui-jo of FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Hwang Hee-chan of RB Leipzig and Kim Shin-wook of Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, who missed Korea's friendly against Japan in March, where it suffered a 3-0 loss.
"[With the overseas players joining,] the team will get back on track. We will work in unison and do our utmost to show good play," Bento told reporters at the National Football Center in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
The U-23 team will play friendly matches against Ghana on June 12 and 15 on Jeju Island ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The roster includes Lee Seung-woo of Portimonense, Lee Kang-in of Valencia CF, Paik Seung-ho of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Jeong Woo-yeong of SC Freiburg and Lee Dong-jun of Ulsan Hyundai FC.
About Son Heung-min and Hwang Ui-jo, who are expected to be selected as wild card entries, Kim said, "They are willing [to participate in the Olympic tournament]. But I cannot guarantee it because their clubs may refuse to release them."
