Sales of Coronavirus Self-Test Kits Start in Korea

      April 30, 2021 14:14

Sales have begun of coronavirus self-test kits manufactured by SD Biosensor, Hanmi Pharm said Thursday.

The drug maker is handling sales of the products, which was recently given the green light by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, but only for emergency use.

The self-test kits use swab samples from the nose to determine if a person has been infected and results appear within 15 minutes. But the results are not very reliable and can only be used as the basis for a proper test.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said a self-test kit costs W8,000-10,000 (US$1=W1,109).
