Duty-free shops are counting on in-flight sales on popular flights to nowhere amid the coronavirus pandemic as airport sales have dwindled to a mere trickle.
To help cash-strapped airlines, the government allows the sale of duty-free products on board flights that land where they started.
Lotte had about 1,600 customers on such flights last month, up three times compared to December.
The average purchase per person was W1.2 million, nearly triple that of pre-pandemic times when passengers typically stocked up before takeoff (US$1=W1,115).
