Star actresses Song Hye-kyo, Ko Hyun-jung, Lee Bo-young and Jeon Ji-hyun are all returning to the small screen at the same time.
Song, who went on hiatus after divorcing Song Joong-ki in 2019, has already chosen her next TV series as well as a follow-up project. The last TV drama she starred in was "Encounter" on tvN two years ago. Her next project is "Now We Are Breaking Up" set to air in the second half of this year where she plays a career-driven fashion designer.
Her follow-up project is a revenge drama written by Kim Eun-sook, who penned KBS' 2016 hit "Descendants of the Sun," where she co-starred with Song Joong-ki before they tied the knot in real life.
Ko will star in cable channel JTBC's drama series "Someone Like You" also set to air in the second half. She plays an ambitious artist and writer.
Lee is set to star in cable channel tvN's drama series "Mine," which depicts the lives of strong women who transcend social stereotypes to achieve their dreams. The series starts next month.
Jeon last appeared in SBS' "Legend of the Blue Sea" four years ago. She last year appeared briefly in the last episode of Season 2 of "Kingdom" on Netflix before returning as the heroine of a "sidequel" to the Korean zombie thriller. The release date for "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" has not yet been confirmed.
She is also taking part in another TV project for tvN. "Jirisan" is a mystery series involving park rangers and will air in the second half.
One industry insider said, "There has been growing interest in stories led by female characters, and this has driven many star scriptwriters to team up with top actresses."
