Ryu Hyun-jin of the Toronto Blue Jays picked up his first win of the season in an away game against the New York Yankees in Dunedin, Florida on Tuesday.
In his third start of the year, Ryu threw 6 and 2/3 innings and allowed just four hits, one walk and one unearned run with seven strikeouts, helping the team to a 7-3 victory.
Ryu was dominant on the mound, showing exceptional control.
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo spoke of the "huge" job Ryu does as an ace for the team in a post-game video conference.
"If you're on a losing streak or something, you feel like, OK, he's going to give you a chance today. That's what [Yankees pitcher Gerrit] Cole does for that team and that's what Ryu does for us. When he takes the mound, we know we have a good chance to win the game."
MLB.com also praised Ryu, saying he "dominated the Yankees."
With Tuesday's victory Ryu recorded his 60th career win since his Major League Baseball debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013.
His MLB stats now include 60 wins and 36 losses with a 2.93 ERA. He is one of only three active pitchers with an ERA under 3 among those who have pitched over 700 innings. The other two are Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers with 2.44 and Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets with 2.59.
