Korea's exports rose 16.6 percent on-year in March, the fifth monthly increase in a row.
Exports were powered by booming trade in semiconductors and cars, while general machinery and petrochemical products also fared well.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Thursday said March exports totaled US$53.8 billion, a record for the month. Fourteen out of Korea's top 15 export products grew on-year with ships up 63.9 percent, petrochemical products 48.5 percent, petroleum products 18.3 percent and steel 12.8 percent.
Semiconductor exports rose 8.6 percent to $9.5 billion, the highest level in more than two years, and car shipments surged 15.3 percent to $4.4 billion, a four-year high.
