Flight simulations are enjoying runaway popularity since international travel came to a standstill in the coronavirus pandemic.
Flight simulator Flight With Us saw membership almost double to 3,106 last year, and membership of the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network (VATSIM), a nonprofit organization that operates online simulations, increased 50 percent to 674.
This trend is attributed to people in lockdown yearning for the skies.
But Microsoft also came out with its first new flight simulator program in 14 years, and many professional pilots who have been grounded are keen to keep up their skills.
"Many pilots operate flight simulators on their personal computers while they are resting at home," one said.
