North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister Yo-jong has thrown another tantrum, denouncing the South Korean government as "the idiot" and "a truly weird group."
According to the official [North] Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday, Kim Yo-jong in a statement complained about remarks by the Joint Chiefs of Staff here about a nighttime military parade in Pyongyang last week.
It is "only South Korea whose military organ makes its hostile and awakened attitude known by using such phrases as 'capturing of event' and 'precision tracking' as for celebrations in the North," she fumed. "This is a clear expression of the South Korean authorities' hostile approach toward the fellow countrymen in the North."
She added, "The southerners are a truly weird group hard to understand. They are the idiot and top the world's list in misbehavior as they are only keen on things provoking world laughter."
Such hysterical outbursts are quickly becoming Kim Yo-jong's calling card, though she is not to be blamed for the bizarre translation, which is provided by North Korean officials who are trained without access to original English-language reading material or contact with native speakers.
She often complains about seemingly innocuous statements about the North, presumably with an eye to stoking the Moon Jae-in administration's morbid fear of upsetting the North.
KCNA described her as a "vice director" of the Workers Party's Central Committee rather than "first vice director" as before. Unless that was a mistake, it suggests she may have been slightly demoted to take the fall for one or other of the regime’s failures. But the front-page coverage of her outburst suggests she remains powerful.
