U.S. President-elect Joe Biden is expected to appoint foreign policy expert Kurt Campbell to the newly-created position of Asia tsar, according to the Financial Times on Wednesday.
The former top State Department official for Asia during the Obama administration recently told a webinar, "One of the key challenges of the Biden administration is the need to make an early decision about what to do with respect to North Korea."
Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Harry Harris, a political appointment by outgoing President Donald Trump rather than a career diplomat, has announced that he is leaving his post next week.
Rob Rapson, the deputy chief of mission, will fill in as chargé d’affaires until a new ambassador is nominated.
