Exports of kimchi have reached an all time high, apparently helped by increased consumer interest in foods that boost the immune system amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Korea Customs Service said Sunday that outbound shipments of kimchi from January through November came to around US$130 million. That beats the previous record of about $106 million in 2012, and the year isn't even over yet.
Japan has been by far the biggest importer, accounting for about 49 percent of the total, followed by the U.S. with about 16 percent.
