A district court has rejected a request by the family of late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon to halt forensic analysis of his mobile phone. The Seoul Northern District Court dismissed the request on Wednesday.

Police can now look at his phone data as part of an investigation of the events that led to his suicide earlier this year and possibly shed light on allegations of sexual assault brought by his former secretary.

Police had been analyzing Park's phone to try and piece together the events of the mayor's last days in July. The phone was found next to Park's body on a mountainside near his house in northern Seoul.

The passcode for the iPhone would have been difficult to crack had it not been provided by the former secretary.

The family had argued that Park should be allowed to take his secrets to the grave with him, as is customary in Korea.
