There has been an explosive growth in stock investment among office workers, according to a straw poll by employment portal Job Korea.
Some 76.7 percent of 593 salaried workers surveyed said they are involved in some form of financial investment, reaching 82.3 percent among those in their 30s and 81.4 percent among those in their 40s.
Asked to name all investments they are interested in, most or 73.2 percent opted for savings-type investments, but 50.1 percent also favored the stock market, while 23.1 percent put money into investment funds and only 7.5 percent into real estate.
The proportion who invested in stocks rose 22.8 percentage points compared to a similar poll two years ago. The increase was particularly marked among young people.
A Job Korea staffer said, "Only 16 percent of office workers in their 20s said they invested in stocks two years ago, but that reached 56.1 percent this year, the biggest rate of growth ever."
