Korean display makers have lost their monopoly on the supply of OLED panels for Apple's iPhones.

Taiwan's DigiTimes reported on Tuesday that Chinese display maker BOE Technology "will start shipping 6.1-inch OLED panels, albeit in small volume, for the just released iPhone 12 in the second half of October," gradually increasing next year.

BOE Technology had so far only been supplying small and mid-sized OLED panels for Huawei phones but was forced to look for other clients amid a U.S. war against the Chinese manufacturer.

It previously failed to meet Apple's quality standards but managed to pass them this time after switching assembly lines with low yields.

The development has caused jitters among Korean display makers. Apple mainly buys small and mid-sized OLED panels from Samsung Display and LG Display.
