Actor Lee Min-ho will star in "Pachinko," a series which will air on Apple TV+.
Lee has been cast as the male lead in the adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same title by Korean-American writer Min Jin Lee.
It tells the story of a Korean family in Japan over four generations from 1910 until 1989. The novel was a finalist for the National Book Award for fiction in 2019 and was chosen as the book of the year by a number of media outlets.
Min Jin Lee wrote it based on interviews with Korean-Japanese while living in Tokyo from 2007 to 2011 and has been praised for her evocative reflection of the times.
Lee Min-ho shot to stardom with the hit TV series "Boys Over Flowers" in 2009 and has since earned fame internationally as well as at home. He recently appeared in SBS TV series "The King: Eternal Monarch," which was also on Netflix for global audiences.
Korean-American Soo Hugh will write the script and executive-produce the series, and Min Jin Lee will join as an executive producer.
The release date has not yet been decided.
