Thursday was the UN's "Global Handwashing Day" aimed at promoting the eponymous activity.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said proper handwashing is almost as effective as a vaccine in preventing diseases including coronavirus and reduces the risk of respiratory infections by 20 percent.
The annual observance on Oct. 15 was established in 2008 by a coalition of private, government and non-governmental organizations.
