This combined photo shows U.S. Ambassador to Korea Harry Harris without his moustache after visiting a barber shop in Seoul on July 25, in this grab from the ambassador's Twitter account.

U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Harry Harris has shaved off his signature moustache, which had incensed some fanatical Korean patriots as being reminiscent of Japanese facial hair during the occupation.

The former U.S. admiral let his mustache grow after he became a diplomat.

But last Saturday, Harris uploaded a video on Twitter showing himself visiting a barber shop in Seoul's Jongno district.

Harris "visited a classic local barbershop to become a little 'cooler' during the hot summer months," he tweeted. "Summer in Seoul is way too hot & humid for both. #COVID guidelines matter & I'm a masked man!"

His before-and-after images made a splash online.

Born to an American Navy officer and a Japanese mother, Harris infuriated some anti-American activists when he took up the post in Korea.
