Jeon So-mi Signs Deal with U.S. Record Label

Singer Jeon So-mi has grabbed a chance to become the next K-pop act to charm the global music scene.

Jeon signed a deal with Interscope Records, an American record label under Universal Music Group, her agency said on Tuesday.

Interscope Records is home to global musicians from various genres including Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Madonna and Selena Gomez.

K-pop girl group Black Pink also signed with the label in 2018 and have successfully taken their music worldwide, including to the U.S., Europe and South America.

"So-mi stands out with her unique and worldly approach to pop music. She is poised to be the next international breakout artist," Interscope told Variety, a U.S. entertainment magazine.

Jeon releases her new single, "What You Waiting For," on Wednesday.
