Samsung is already drawing up the broad outlines of 6G mobile services before much of the world has set up 5G networks.
In a white paper Tuesday titled "The Next Hyper-Connected Experience for All," the electronics giant predicts that 6G services will be commercially available in around 2030.
Connections are expected to be another 50 times faster than 5G. "Both humans and machines will be the main users of 6G," the company said. "6G will be characterized by provision of advanced services such as truly immersive extended reality (XR), high-fidelity mobile hologram and digital replica."
But many hurdles need to be overcome, not least the limited computing power of current mobile devices and security and privacy concerns.
Samsung intends to use its edge in 5G technology to take the lead in the 6G era by boosting research and development.
