The majority of Koreans support tougher quarantine measures against the coronavirus epidemic even if that means sacrifices for their livelihood, a poll suggests.
Hankook Research polled 1,000 adults last month and found that 64 percent of respondents support stronger quarantine measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 despite a possible blow to the economy.
Only 27 percent were in favor of relaxing quarantine to support the economy.
Asked if they believe Korean society is safe from the virus, 40 percent said no. Some 39 percent said it is generally safe and 21 percent completely safe.
But some 51 percent supported maintaining the current level of social distancing, compared to 43 percent who supported tougher lockdown measures.
