Domestic airline passengers dwindled to a record-low 1.35 million last month before the long weekend in early May somewhat revived business.

According to the Korea Civil Aviation Association on Monday, passenger numbers on domestic flights fell 22 percent compared to March, when they already dwindled to fewer than 2 million for the first time.

The number has been declining every month of the pandemic so far, from 10.6 million in January to 5.5 million in February.

But it is thought to increase this month as the coronavirus scare eases. In the first 17 days of this month the number of domestic flight passengers already rose 55.4 percent from the same period of last month to 1.04 million, helped by travel during the Buddha's Birthday-Children's Day holidays in early May.
