Out of 100 new patients with coronavirus confirmed on Wednesday, 51 arrived from abroad, 29 from Europe and 13 from the U.S. That means infected patients arriving from abroad now outnumber new infections in Korea.
They took up less than 30 percent of the daily numbers until Monday but now account for more than half as the government tightened airport screening.
The number of arrivals from abroad who had tested positive for coronavirus at airport screening checkpoints stood at 101 as of Wednesday. The total rises to 227 if those who passed airport screening but tested positive later are included.
Meanwhile, 104 more cases were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total to 9,241 with 131 linked deaths.
