Golfer An Byeong-hun will compete in the Presidents Cup, which kicks off on Dec. 12 in Australia.

International Team captain Ernie Els on Friday said An will replace Jason Day of Australia, who withdrew from the event due to a back injury.

"It has been a goal of mine all season to be on the international team and I'm honored to play in my first Presidents Cup," said An, who made three top-10 finishes in seven events this season. "I'm looking forward to joining Ernie and the rest of the team… and contribute to the International Team's goal to win the Cup."

The biennial team tournament pits a team of U.S. golfers against another comprising players from the rest of the world except Europe, known as the International Team. Each side consists of 12 players.

Another Korean golfer, Im Sung-jae, will also play on the International Team.
