North Korea has set up a monument at the Tongchang-ri missile launch site it dismantled as a false goodwill gesture earlier this year.

A military spokesman here on Wednesday said the North also built monuments at four other missile test sites nationwide.

A monument (circled) can be seen at a missile test site in Tongchang-ri, North Pyongan Province, in this grab from Google Earth.

The monuments celebrate milestones in missile development such as the Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile and the Pukkuksong-2 intermediate-range ballistic missile last year.

The latest monument, a 10-m wide structure at Tongchang-ri, is about three times as big as earlier ones. The regime launched a space rocket there in 2016 which laid the groundwork for its current ICBM technology.

Earlier, the website 38 North at Johns Hopkins University speculated that the regime has already "started restoring structures on the rocket launch pad" at Tongchang-ri.

"It's correct that busy activities are being spotted at Tongchang-ri, although there's no suspicion of any immediate missile launch there," the military spokesman said.
