North Korea in a statement Wednesday threatened to take a "new path" should the U.S. and South Korea resume joint military exercises.
It claimed the drills were the "main reason" for cross-border tensions and said that the situation on the Korean Peninsula could go back to "Square One," according to the [North] Korean Central News Agency.
The U.S. and South Korea are staging a renamed version of their "Vigilant Ace" joint aerial exercises next month.
North Korea also denounced joint drills conducted in March and August this year as "acts of betrayal."
