The main opposition Liberty Korea Party took center stage on Tuesday to fire back at justice minister nominee Cho Kuk's denials at an impromptu press conference a day earlier.
Staging their own press conference conservative lawmakers took turns slamming the scandal-tainted candidate's denials of the allegations raised against him, producing plenty of evidence that suggested he was lying.
Cho held a marathon press conference on Monday to deny any knowledge of the welter of scandal surrounding him after the opposition held up a confirmation hearing on Monday and Tuesday.
Cho claimed to have no knowledge of anything that went on under his nose, including multiple accusations of nepotism in his daughter's university admissions and dubious profits his family members made from an equity fund they owns.
Whether rival parties will be able to reach a last-minute deal to hold a confirmation hearing after all remains to be seen. But President Moon Jae-in is still determined to push his tainted candidate through.
