2 More Powerful Typhoons Approaching

Two more powerful typhoons are approaching the Korean Peninsula after typhoon Francisco left it early Wednesday without causing much damage.

Lekima, this year's ninth typhoon, was heading northwestward in waters about 780 km southeast of Taipei at a speed of 16 km/h as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

Lekima is a midsize typhoon with a central pressure of 965 hPa and a maximum wind speed of 133 km/h. It is expected to move north towards Shanghai after passing the northernmost part of Taiwan. It is still difficult to predict how close it will come to the Korean Peninsula, the KMA added.

Francisco, which made landfall in Korea on Tuesday, was a small typhoon with a maximum wind speed of 100 km/h.

Meanwhile Krosa, the 10th typhoon of the year, was moving northwestward over waters some 1,050 km northwest of Guam the same afternoon at a speed of 5 km/h.

"Krosa is so slow that it will still be more than 1,000 km away from Korea after the weekend," the KMA said.

As the typhoons affect air pressures over the peninsula, the weather is going to be erratic until the weekend, with scattered showers or thunderstorms in some parts.
