With the summer vacation season peaking this week, the country is expected to suffer heavy traffic congestion as most holidaymakers plan to be on the road.
In a nationwide survey of 7,000 households by the Korea Transport Institute conducted last month, over 84 percent of respondents said they planned to drive to their holiday destinations. The institute estimates an average of 4.9 million vacationers a day would hit the road for their summer vacations, up 1.7 percent on-year.
Expressways leading out of the capital are expected to be busiest on Wednesday and Thursday, with returning traffic set to peak on the weekend.
