North Korea claimed Saturday that it surpassed its first-half industrial production target by 108 percent. The claim contradicts estimates that international sanctions have slashed the North's trade by half and caused its economy to shrink.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency here believes North Korea's exports dropped 86.3 percent to US$243 million, while trade fell 48.8 percent to $2.84 billion last year.
