U.S. and North Korean officials are expected to meet in Sweden as contacts between the two countries resume after U.S. President Donald Trump met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un last weekend.

North Korea's chief negotiator is likely to be the former ambassador to Vietnam, Kim Myong-gil.

A diplomatic source in Washington on Wednesday said Sweden has been promoting itself as the venue for working-level talks between the U.S. and North Korea, and the U.S. will officially propose it as the venue in the near future.

The source said another candidate is Mongolia, which has also put itself forward.

North Korea has informed the U.S. that the main contact for U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun will be Kim Myong-gil, but the source added, "We can't be certain of that."
