The annual Jeonju International Film Festival kicked off in North Jeolla Province on Thursday, beginning its 10-day run until May 11 with 275 films from 53 countries, including 74 shorts.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival, which has grown into Korea's biggest independent and art film festival.
The opening film was "Piranhas" by Italian director Claudio Giovannesi, an adaptation of a novel about 10 teenage boys who slide into the drug smuggling business and the toast of this year's Berlinale.
In a fond farewell to one of the greats of French cinema, the festival also screens "Varda by Agnes," the last film Agnes Varda made before she died last month at the age of 90, on Saturday and Monday.
