Hyundai's New Sonata Sedan Receives Over 10,000 Pre-Orders

Hyundai's completely revamped Sonata sedan has gotten off to a good start.

The carmaker said it sold over 10,000 Sonatas in just five days since it started taking pre-orders on March 11. The figure was almost double the average monthly sales of its predecessor at some 5,500 units.

Sales of its bread-and-butter model fell from 500,000 worldwide in 2011 to around 200,000 last year, so Hyundai hopes to claw back sales with the latest version.

The entry-level version is priced at W23.46 million, which is slightly higher than the previous version, but comes with plenty of high-end features, making customers willing to spend (US$1=W1,137).
