The sentencing of former President Lee Myung-bak on corruption charges will be televised from 2 p.m. Friday.
"Considering a number of circumstances like the huge public interest and requests from the media, we have decided to broadcast it live," an official at the Seoul Central District Court said Tuesday.
It will be the third major trial to be broadcast. The first was the sentencing of Lee's successor Park Geun-hye for graft and other charges in April last year. The second came in July, when Park was sentenced on separate corruption charges. She refused to appear in court.
Lee is charged with embezzling W34.9 billion from automotive parts company DAS and taking W11.1 billion in bribes (US$1=W1,122). Prosecutors have demanded a 20-year prison term for him.
