BMW will provide free rental cars to customers affected by a recall following a raft of spontaneous engine fires in Korea. The service will run until Aug. 14, when inspections of affected models are scheduled to end.
As of the end of July, 3,289 out of 106,000 cars subject to the recall had been inspected.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it expects BMW to submit documentation by Friday to back its claim that the exhaust gas recirculation module in diesel engines is to blame for the fires.
But the ministry will also look into alternative explanations since no engine fires of cars with the same module have been reported abroad.
