Samsung will start receiving pre-orders for the new flagship Galaxy Note 9 smartphone in mid-August.
The handset will be unveiled on Aug. 9 in New York, ahead of its official release in the domestic market on Aug. 24. The release date is three weeks earlier than last year's launch of its predecessor on Sept. 15.
"Samsung hopes to increase its market share with the release of the new handset after declining sales amid stiff competition from Chinese handset makers," said a market researcher.
The Galaxy Note 9 is expected to look similar to its predecessor but have a bigger screen and larger battery capacity. It will also have an upgraded stylus featuring Bluetooth connectivity and a wireless speaker.
