Mudslinging between the Minjoo Party's Gyeonggi gubernatorial candidate Lee Jae-myung and his opponents is reaching fever pitch with the local elections only two days away.

Actress Kim Bu-sun says she had an affair with Lee, and now her daughter has backed her version of events. "I have seen photos of Lee in my house," said Lee Mee-sso on Monday.

But Lee Jae-myung accuses both mother and daughter of being on board with a "smear campaign."

Lee Mee-sso posted a message on Instagram saying, "I first learned about their relationship from a newspaper article [back then], and it was the day my university graduation play was going to be staged. I was so embarrassed that I recall asking my mother not to come to the performance."

"I saw photos of my mom and candidate Lee while organizing our photos and I threw them all away," she added.

Kim recently uploaded a photo of her in front of a pier in Incheon which she claims Lee Jae-myung took on one of their dates. Kim claimed that there were also other photos of them together that day, but she could not find them.

The daughter says she decided to spill the beans against her wishes because she grew tired of the candidate accusing her mother of deception.

But Lee Jae-myung says it is all part of an elaborate conspiracy by the opposition parties to discredit him and distract voters from the real issues.

Lee had a huge lead in the opinion polls before the scandal escalated.
