GM Korea started a massive sales campaign, offering extended warranty periods and cash discounts to claw back some of its lost market share here.

Customers who buy the Malibu sedan or Traxx small SUV in May will benefit from warranties that last seven years and up to 140,000 km. And 200 customers will win various prizes and chances to test-drive GM cars during the next two months.

Customers can get between W1 million and W4 million off depending on the model purchased (US$1=W1,076).

GM Korea's domestic sales stood at just 5,378 cars last month, down 54.2 percent compared to the same period of 2017.

The automaker has suffered a 50-percent on-year decline in sales in Korea since announcing the closure of its plant in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province in February.
