The number of new employees rose by 104,000 from a year eariler in February, marking the lowest growth since January 2010.

The growth stood at 314,000 in January, Statistics Korea said on Wednesday.

It attributed the slowdown to sluggish growth in the manufacturing, wholesale and retail sectors as well as GM Korea's shutdown of its plant in Gunsan. The total number of people employed stood at over 26 million last month.

The government is expected to unveil detailed measures to boost job creation on Thursday.
