5G mobile communication technologies have taken a center stage at the World Mobile Congress, which kicked off Monday in Barcelona, Spain.
Global tech giants are showcasing their 5G technologies including virtual and augmented reality, drones and driverless cars, giving a hint of the future.
An industry insider said, "This year's MWC is being held ahead of the selection of the first 5G communication standard in June, and success or failure determines which business will gain the upper hand in the future market."

Huawei, Intel, Qualcomm and Samsung unveiled their latest 5G products that are set to be released soon, hoping to be the first out of the gate.
Huawei, China's No. 1 phone maker, unveiled the Balong 5G01, the first commercially available 5G chipset. Intel, which put on a drone show at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, said it will join hands with NTT DoCoMo and put on another 5G show at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in two years.
Samsung is exhibiting 5G equipment and network technologies that will make people's life "smarter."
SK Telecom, KT and other telecoms are featuring their own 5G technologies and offering hand-on experiences using them.
