Germany carrier Lufthansa said Tuesday it decided to delete the name "Dokdo" for Korea's easternmost islets on the maps that play on in-flight screens maps following a complaint from the Japanese government.
But rather than use the Japanese name "Takeshima" for the Korean islets, as Tokyo demanded, Lufthansa will simply delete their name altogether.
Lufthansa launched a Tokyo-Munich route in December last year and is flying an Airbus A350-900, whose software identifies the islets as Dokdo.
The Japanese branch of Lufthansa said it "regrets" the incident and pledged to make the software revisions by this weekend.
