The Japanese government once again claimed ownership of Korea's Dokdo islets in its new guidelines for school textbooks.
Tokyo's Education Ministry last week unveiled a draft of the new guidelines under which Japanese students will be taught that Korea's easternmost islets, known as Takeshima in Japan, belong to the country.
Once finalized, the guidelines are to be applied to high school textbooks from 2022.
Despite the fact that historically, geographically and under international law, the islets are Korean territory, Japan already includes the claim in its elementary and middle school teaching guidelines.
