Samsung has toppled Intel as the world's largest maker of memory chips.
Intel has dominated the memory chip market for 25 years and posted record revenue of US$62.8 billion last year, but it was not enough to retain the top spot, after Samsung raked in US$67 billion in revenue.
Samsung far outpaced Intel in terms of operating profit and profitability, as well.
Market watchers say Samsung is reaping the benefits of focusing on mobile memory chips, while Intel remains focused on processors for desktop computers and laptops.
