SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won and his wife Roh Soh-yeong have failed to reach an amicable agreement on the terms of their divorce.
The couple attended a second round of settlement proceedings at the Seoul Family Court on Tuesday, where they spent an hour trying to hammer out terms.
Roh (57) missed the first hearing last November.
Afterwards the couple left the courthouse separately without speaking to reporters.
They married in 1988 and have three children but have lived apart for years.
Their troubles became public in December 2015, when Chey wrote a letter to the press revealing that he had a child out of wedlock and wanted to divorce his wife.
He filed for divorce in July last year, but legal experts believe there is little chance of an amicable settlement because Roh has vehemently refused to divorce her husband.
That means Chey (58) will have to sue for divorce.
