The family of Samsung chief Lee Jae-yong visited him in jail last month after he was sentenced to five years in prison for bribing ex-President Park Geun-hye.
According to legal sources on Wednesday, his mother Hong Ra-hee and two sisters, Hotel Shilla president Lee Boo-jin and Samsung Corp. president Lee Seo-hyun went to see Lee Jae-yong in prison south of Seoul. They had last seen him in March, right after Lee was sent to a remand prison while awaiting trial.
None showed up at his trial even though court officials reserved seats for them in the audience. Prison officials said Lee had kept up his hopes of being released until the verdict was announced on Aug. 25.
Lee's lawyers are appealing the sentence, while prosecutors are seeking a heavier term.
