Cheong Wa Dae officials on Monday announced they unearthed a cache of some 9,300 computer files from the Park Geun-hye administration earlier this month.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Park Soo-hyun told reporters some of the files relate to the massive corruption scandal that brought down Park and her crony Choi Soon-sil, and to the blacklisting of thousands of cultural figures to cut them off from public funding. He added certain files could be handed over to prosecutors on request.
The spokesman told reporters that the 9,308 files created from 2013 to January 2015 were found on Aug. 10 on a desktop computer in the old office of Ahn Bong-geun, one of a trio of secretaries who apparently had unlimited access to Park.
The office was closed down in January 2015 as part of admin reform and the files appear to have been left on the computer by mistake.
The spokesman said he announced the find belatedly because folders from other offices also had to be screened. But conservative political groups once again accused the presidential office of using the scandal to divert public attention from its own performance.
