Former U.S. Ambassador to Korea Mark Lippert has been appointed a vice president of aircraft giant Boeing, according to news website Politico on Monday.

Lippert is expected to be in charge of international government affairs, which presumably means trying to sell airplanes to foreign countries. Lippert was an aide to ex-U.S. President Barack Obama and became the youngest U.S. ambassador here at age 41 in October 2014.

He was seriously injured in a slasher attack in downtown Seoul in March 2015. Later he endeared himself to his hosts with frequent social media postings about his enjoyment of local customs, a smattering of Korean phrases and by giving both his son and daughter, who were born here, Korean middle names.

He left on Jan. 20 after just two years and three month service, after the Donald Trump administration was inaugurated.
