Glass Ceiling Still Firmly in Place at Top Conglomerates

    The proportion of women who reached executive positions at the nation's top 30 conglomerates this year stood at just 2.4 percent, according to industry tracker CEO Score on Wednesday.

    That means out of 1,517 staffers who were promoted to executive positions, a mere 37 were women.

    Conglomerates with relatively higher ratios of women being promoted to executive jobs were Shinsegae (10.2 percent or five), CJ (5.7 percent or four), Hyundai Department Store (five percent or two) and Lotte (3.8 percent or 10). The retail industry had the highest ratio.

    Park Ju-gun at CEO Score said, "The proportion of female executives in major conglomerates rose from 2.1 percent in 2014 to 2.5 percent last year, which is absurdly low. The glass ceiling at major corporations is still firmly in place."
