Most Koreans will be able to have a week-long holiday in early May.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor said on Monday that it is considering designating a few days off in May, creating a bridge to the weekend that would allow workers to get a 9-day holiday from the last weekend of April to the first week of May including Labor Day (May 1), Buddha's Birthday (May 3) and Children's Day (May 5).

"Getting extra days off on May 2 and 4 will allow many workers to have a lengthy holiday which would help boost consumption amid the prolonged recession," minister Lee Ki-kweon said.

The ministry took a similar measure in May last year.
