Gender Divide over Seasonal Differences in Clothing Sales

Men's clothing sells well in autumn, whereas demand for women's attire is strongest in summer.

Sales of men's clothing at Ticket Monster in September and October were 16 to 20 percent higher than the monthly average, the online shopping mall said Monday. This contrasted with women's clothing sales, which spiked by 18 to 19 percent above the average in June and July.

"It seems that many fashion-conscious women shop for hot, figure-flattering items in summer," Ticket Monster said. "Men, on the other hand, tend to spend their money on suits or overcoats in autumn."

Men are more enticed than women by famous brands, which accounted for 44 percent of men's clothing sales, compared to just 25 percent for women.

"Men are relatively less fashion-conscious than women, and tend to stick with well-known brands. Women are looking at designs and styles, not brands," a staffer said.
