Online shopping is nearly twice as common among the older generation in Korea than the global average.

Market researcher Kantar TNS surveyed 70,000 Internet users in 57 countries and found that 82 percent of respondents in Korea between 55 and 64 have bought products online, compared to the global average of just 47 percent.

Korea also ranked top in terms of overall online shopping. Eight out of 10 Koreans said they have bought products online, ahead of 78 percent in Norway, 76 percent in Brazil and 75 percent in the U.K.

The number of online purchases of food, personal hygiene products and cleaning products rose, while clothes, music and IT products dropped slightly.

Kantar TNS said as competition intensifies in Korea over delivery of products bought online, sales of daily consumer goods will grow.
