The International Olympic Committee has suspended taekwondo Olympic gold medalist Moon Dae-sung from the Athletes' Commission.

Moon's name on the member list is now marked by three asterisks, meaning he is suspended.

The IOC did not comment on the reason, but the problem is likely to be that Moon was found guilty in 2014 of plagiarizing his doctoral thesis.

It is rare for the IOC to suspend a member without an official announcement. According to sources it seems the IOC wants to avoid any more scandal amid controversy over allowing Russian athletes to compete at the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next month despite heavy doping suspicions.

Moon was elected into the IOC as a member of the Athletes' Commission. His tenure was to last until the end of the Rio Olympics.
